Move over James Dean and
John “Cougar” Mellencamp. Indiana has a new sex symbol for the ladies to
admire.
The Hoosier Gazette just
received breaking news that Evansville native Ryan Martin is
glossing the pages of Cosmopolitan Magazine. The Reitz High School graduate and former
relief pitcher for the University of Southern Indiana has moved on to
bigger and better things now that his modeling career is taking off like a
rocket. “I always felt I could make it in Hollywood or New York,” said Martin
in an interview via satellite this afternoon.
Superstardom did not come
easy for Martin. After a spot on the Evansville Otters Independent League
baseball team didn’t pan out and a couple of failed attempts at starting a
career in Los Angeles, Mr. Martin did what most aspiring models/actors do-- he
found a job bartending. Ryan worked at the local pizza-pub, Turoni’s
Forget-Me-Not-Inn, until getting enough money together to chase his dream once
more.
Soon it was off to Manhattan
to pursue a career as a male model. Many people sensed that Martin would
finally find a home in New York. Former USI classmate John Andrews had this to
say: “That dude would sit in class all day reading People magazine
articles about Leonardo DiCaprio.” He was better known at USI for his looks
than for his pitching prowess, and close friends labeled him “Mr. Beautiful”.
No one is happier with
Ryan’s success than his father, Buck Martin. Says the elder Martin, “Hell, I
always knew he could do it because he’s got my genes. I just wish he could have
played for the Yankees instead of Cosmo. But, hell, I’m still proud of the
boy.” Buck further added, “Too bad this didn’t happen in time for him to get a
role in that Zoolander movie.”
“Ryan has just scratched the
surface of his potential,” said fashion guru Isaac Mizrahi in a telephone
interview, “He is the total package. I look for him to be the Fabio of the 21st
century!”
