Indiana to offer four new specialty license plates

            By John LeForest, THG News

Due to a widespread dislike of Indiana’s standard edition license plates adopted in 2003, the popularity of specialty plates has grown tremendously.  Last year alone, the number of people purchasing such plates grew by over 300%.

The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles receives an additional $15 per specialty plate sold, so the agency is releasing four additional plates May 1 to raise money for the campaign to elect Joe Kernan for Governor.

Over the past several months, artists from around the state submitted ideas for new plates to be offered by the Indiana BMV.  A panel of Democratic legislators chose the following as the final four:

Trar Parade—by Herb Stanley of Salem

Basketball Travesty—by Kelly Williams of Indianapolis

Viva La Indiana—by Jorge Garcia of Dale

Queer Wonderland, Gay and Proud—by Bruce Shelley
