How can Indiana overcome its $1 billion
budget deficit? Elect My Man Mitch
By John LeForest, THG News
On May 9, Kevin Corcoran of the Indianapolis Star reported
that 32 of our nation’s 50 states are projecting budget surpluses by the end of
the 2004 budget year in late June. Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and
Wyoming are even projected as having surpluses in excess of 5% of their general
fund budgets, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Corcoran also happened to mention that Indiana is not one
of them, with a $1 billion deficit that is one of the worst in the nation.
So what is the secret behind the budgetary success of the
states mentioned above while Indiana is stuck in a quagmire of debt? The answer
is simple: Republican leadership.
Florida, Nevada, and South Dakota all have Republican
governors. Despite having Democrats as governors, Oklahoma and Wyoming have
kept their budgets balanced by having two of the most conservative-voting
legislatures (http://usconservatives.about.com/library/weekly/aastatesrankeda.htm).
Only if we follow the examples of those states and elect
Mitch Daniels for governor will there be light at the end of the tunnel for
Indiana citizens who want to prosper
.
Elect Democrat Joe Kernan governor and this will be
Indiana’s new state flag
Daniels has what Indiana needs. As director of our
nation’s Office of Management and Budget under George W. Bush, Daniels oversaw
the federal government’s $2 trillion budget. This gives My Man Mitch the
background he needs to lead Indiana out of the red while keeping taxes low, thus
putting more money in your pockets.
This is why HoosierGazette.com is endorsing Mitch Daniels
for governor come election time this November.
