Indiana's first source for
inaccurate news and commentary since 2003
The
Hoosier Gazette celebrates its first anniversary this week

It is hard to believe how
fast a year can go by. It seems like only yesterday that I sat down at my
computer and started to put together the very first edition of The Hoosier
Gazette. This time last year, Josh had sent me nine stories to post, along with
a Kentucky joke, Indiana state motto, and a Dear Don column.
When planning the site
during September and October of 2003, we thought it might get a few thousand
hits the first year if we were lucky. It was more or less an avenue for
posting Indiana-related satire and news to make our circle of friends have a few
laughs.
We never in a million
years thought that by this time we would have had around 900,000 views in over
120 countries. Or that we would have stories reported as real on radio shows
and newspapers worldwide. Or that we would be getting calls from the Jimmy
Kimmel Show. Or be mentioned in Time Magazine.
Heck, just yesterday there
was an article about us in the Indianapolis Star (http://www.indystar.com/articles/0/190394-8740-108.html)
and we are also featured in the November edition of Indianapolis Monthly
magazine, which will be hitting the shelves of bookstores this week.
The coolest thing about
our success is aside from some creativity, all it took was $9 a month for web
space (now $11 since we upgraded our service), copies of Microsoft Front Page
and Paint Shop Pro, and a lot of luck.
So how are we going to
celebrate one year in business? The way you would expect from a couple of
average Joes from southern Indiana: head over to Terre Haute Saturday morning
for “The Walk”, watch ISU’s homecoming football game, grill a few hamburgers,
and just hang out and shoot the bull like we’ve done frequently the last 15
years that we have been friends.
Will the upcoming year
will be as exciting as this one? Only time will tell. All that really matters
to us is that we keep having fun doing the site.
Thanks to our loyal
readers who continue to come back and check out our new material week after
week.
