You got questions, the Hoosier Gazette has answers

Melvin Flener
President THG Fan Club

Lately we have been getting a lot of questions e-mailed in about the site, so we decided to take a minute and answer some of those most commonly asked:

Why hasn’t the site been updated every week lately?

Except for an occasional article by John Andrews, I do all of the writing for the site, so when I am extremely busy or burned out I take a break.  I am taking graduate classes at IU-Southeast on top of my day job as a geography teacher, so when it gets close to the end of the semester my workload picks up and my writing suffers.  I am taking my last final tonight so things should be back to normal next week.

What happened to the THG Blog?

This summer Chris is changing our site to a weblog format so we can update it from any computer with Internet.  Instead of weekly, THG will be updated daily, sometimes several times a day with our original material and also news links from various sources around the state.  We decided to shut down our blog (which we had through blogger.com) until we make the necessary changes to THG.

Do you guys plan on covering some of Indiana’s summer festivals and other events?

We would like to visit some of the state’s attractions on weekends this summer if we think they would make for good stories.  Except for the weekends of July 2 and July 9 (friends’ weddings) we are available, so e-mail us and let us know if you think a local festival or attraction is worth a look.

What are your favorite humor sites?

I can honestly say I don’t visit very many humor sites; I mainly read newspaper or other news sites.  My favorite sites:

FlipSideSports.net

Fark.com

Drasl.is

InTheAgora.com

Do you make any money off the site?

We make a little money—enough to cover our expenses and hit the town once in a while but we won’t be quitting our day jobs anytime soon.  We could probably do quite a bit better if we really worked on selling advertising, but that would take a lot more time and effort than we are willing to spend.

Do you accept and post articles from other writers?

We have gotten this question a lot the last year and a half.  We are still not accepting material from outside writers, but if we come across something funny on the web that we like, we don’t hesitate to link to it.  If you would like to see your satire or commentary on THG, post it on your own site and send us the link; if we like it we will link to it from our home page.

Do you really hate Kentucky?

I just got this letter the other day from a reader in Kentucky:

im a kentuckian and you can kiss my a** at least we have the kentucky derby and fort knox but you dont have sh**.

In case you haven’t noticed, we make fun of Indiana a great deal more than we do Kentucky, but this doesn’t stop letters like the one above from pouring in each week.  We have nothing against Kentucky; except for a few inbred idiots like the writer of the letter above, most Kentuckians are pretty nice folks.

What are your plans for the future of THG?

As long as we have time and it is still fun, we will keep the site running.
