Hoosier Gazette-sponsored car fails to qualify for Brickyard 400 August 8, 2004 It is back to the drawing board for the Kasinger Racing/HoosierGazette.com team. In their first year on NASCAR’s Nextel Cup circuit, the New Whiteland, Indiana based team has failed to qualify for any of the 20 races held so far. And things seem to be
getting worse; the Kasinger team’s orange Dodge failed to complete a qualifying
lap due to problems with its engine. The car rolled to a stop less than halfway
around the 2.5 mile asphalt oval track, black smoke spewing from under the
hood. Driver Scottie Eickhoff exited the number 276 car and threw his helmet in
disgust. Team owner C. D. Kasinger was not really sure what went wrong. “You will have to ask the pit crew what happened. To be honest, I really don’t know that much about cars.” Kasinger hopes to get his car’s engine problems worked out in time to qualify for next weekend’s Sirius at the Glen at Watkins Glen International Speedway in New York.
